The story of Domaine Porto Carras Grand Resort begins with a vision to create wines of precision and strong personality. Designed in collaboration with academic institutions and guided by leading oenologists of its time, the vineyard introduced historic Greek varietals alongside international ones. Today, the Domaine stands as a benchmark for elegant, high-quality wines shaped by the soul of their terroir.
Spanning 110 hectares across the slopes of Meliton, the vineyard is among the largest organic single estates in Greece. Set between 200 and 300 metres above sea level, the vines benefit from marine breezes and Mediterranean dryness. Certified organic since 1996, cultivation follows a measured, low-yield philosophy, resulting in fruit rich in aroma and flavor.
Established in 1967 at the heart of the estate, the winery ensures immediate processing of the grapes to preserve quality and structure. Modern vinification methods are paired with long maturation in French oak barrels. Iconic labels such as Château Porto Carras Grand Resort reflect this disciplined approach.
The Domaine’s philosophy is rooted in both tradition and innovation. It played a key role in the revival of Malagouzia and Limnio, two of the oldest recorded Greek grape varieties. International varietals such as Cabernet Sauvignon were also introduced with scientific precision. Viticulture here is both research-driven and grounded in heritage.
Guided in its early years by Professor Émile Peynaud, the father of modern oenology, the Domaine established one of the first Greek PDO wines of international recognition. Ageing protocols combine extended barrel maturation with long bottle evolution. Structure, longevity, and varietal clarity remain central to every release.
Wine tastings are hosted year-round at the Melissanthi tasting room within the Domaine. Guided tours across the vineyards offer panoramic views over Halkidiki and the Aegean coastline.
